Soma Planter - Extra Small Wood Top

Designed by Laurie Wiid of Wiid Design the Soma planter juxtaposes lightweight moulded glass reinforced concrete (GRC) with wood to create a dramatic and beautifully proportioned contemporary piece. The stone-like appearance of the concrete in combination with wood lends a natural aesthetic to the planter, which will age beautifully over time if used outdoors.

- Available in glass reinforced concrete (GRC) with Iroko wood top.

- Plastic self watering plant liner with rubber stopper.

- Concrete Colors: White, Light Grey, Dark Grey, or Black.
- Iroko Top: Oil Treated or Untreated.

Creating products & objects that can be seen as the interface between art and design - where materials are transformed into life enriching and durable products.

Wiid Design is a Cape Town based design studio, established by Laurie Wiid van Heerden.
Wiid Design’s work comes from a conceptual and artistic environment, an angle on various topics of contemporary culture, with a focus on traditional handcrafting in combination with avant-garde techniques. By combining handcrafting and specialist techniques, Wiid transforms materials into life-enriching and durable objet d’art. Being nominated as a finalist in the Absolut Visi Designer of the year competition in the emerging designer category for 2011 and having exhibited at international design fairs such as 100% Design in London, Design Days Dubai, Design Miami/Basel in Switzerland and Design Miami in the US just shows the quality of work and attention to detail that Wiid Design presents in its work.
Laurie Wiid van Heerden received the “maker to market” award at the annual Southern Guild Design Foundation awards ceremony in 2013. This award recognizes a design company that understands the value of packaging, for presentation and protection, identity and brand building, logistics and the various processes that take place between production and sales.
Wiid Design was also awarded the “Conde Nast House & Garden award for production excellence in South African design” at 100% Design South Africa, 2014 and the “Best Lighting Design” award at 100% Design 2015.
The Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) awarded Laurie Wiid van Heerden the 2015 ImpACT Award for Design at the annual awards ceremony that was held in Sandton.
Wiid’s product range includes furniture items such as stools, side tables, dining tables, benches and also a range of lighting, tableware and collectible hand-carved objects.
